APRIL IN MENDOCINO: CHILDREN AND NATURE GO TOGETHER
APRIL IN MENDOCINO: CHILDREN AND NATURE GO TOGETHER MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA -- (March 20, 2008) – On April 8, the Board of Supervisors of Mendocino County will proclaim April as Children and Nature Awareness Month in Mendocino County.
Jenny Donovan, Sector Supervisor of the State Parks located in northern Mendocino County says: "Our children are less connected to the natural world than at any other time in history. The implications of this, particularly for their physical and mental health, are immense. Children’s lives have become increasingly structured and adult supervised. The simple act of playing in nature results in healthier and happier children. As parents and mentors, we can help our children break away from a plugged-in society and discover the treasures and joy of discovery found in natural areas such as State Parks. California State Parks is raising awareness and promoting opportunities for children to connect with nature”
A pioneer in solar energy, organic wine production and conservation, Mendocino County was the first county in the US to ban genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
