Marketing Committee

The meeting was called to order by Jeff Stanford at 10:25 am. Present were Josie Perla, Cally Dym, Richard Strom, Jeff Stanford, Scott Schneider (ED), Pam Amante, Kevin Gallagher (11:20), Alydia Atkins (guest), Charles Peavey (guest), Louis Bohannan (guest) . Phone: Jennifer Jones (guest)

Minutes to be approved –Jan motions to approve. Josie seconds. Motion passes.

Chairman’s Report:
• Jeff reported Black Diamond PR firm we partner to hire for the UK market was here visiting the area. They suggested developing packages between lodging and winemakers.
• David McGrane of Ozone wants to come and present to the Board regarding SEM at the July meeting.

Administration Report:
• PR Member Showcases – 1st showcase to be held July 6 or 7 in Gualala with HypeHouse. Ad to be put in Coast Observer for showcase. Thought to have North Coast showcase along with one of the Coast Chamber mixers. Pam to contact Coast Chamber.
• Skunk train depot brochure rack to be on next agenda. Proposal to be presented in writing. Richard to come with a proposal.
• Scott presented Alice Radio “Now N Zen” concert marketing opportunity. Committee felt it was not appropriate for our County and not our target market.

Old Business:
• Marketing Budget Breakdown - tabled until next meeting as other areas of the budget need to be determined first
• SEM Report – Scott handed out SEM meeting report with Ozone. Committee members to research other SEM management firms to find out more about our SEM options.
o Questions were raised regarding the price we pay per click and if MCLA should be paying for all of SEM for gomendo. Maybe it could be a joint marketing initiative.
• Jan motions we pay up to $5000 per month for July & August for SEM to try out another firm. Omniture tags/tracking needs to be a part of the SEM campaign. Richard seconds. Motion Passes
o Scott to inquire with Dobay to see about an integrated campaign
• AAA Tourbook and Linda Webber of VIA/Westways –
o VIA encompasses Las Vegas as well as Northern California
o Jeff reported for Peter Crockett of the Tourbook that the Tourbook is good for recognition of the County. Over 1,000,000 copies are printed. Only people that pick up the book will see the ad.
o Linda Webber thanked us for advertising in VIA. 175,000 households in Las Vegas receive VIA. Discussed advertising in the Wine Section of VIA, back cover of “Discover Series” which goes to 500,000 of VIA’s 2,800,000, and doing a full page in regular VIA.
o Westways circulation is 3,700,000 in Southern California. Committee discussed possible 4” ad or 2” ad in cooperation with Humboldt County.
o Tabled to July meeting to make final decision. Scott to come up with possible advertising scenarios.

New Business:
• Partnership Requests:
o Mendocino County Entertainment Series – Request received this morning via email and was sent to Committee. Nicole was not present. Tabled until next meeting.
• Nature Tourism Map – Richard discusses we need to come up with an idea for what we need for a map. Committee decided to wait on the discussion and hear suggestions when we discuss the new fulfillment piece/maps once the marketing project is complete.
• Writer’s Conference Co-op Marketing – tabled to July as Stuart is not present

Privilege of the Floor:
• Kevin commented on the SEM meeting with Ozone. It is felt we are not spending wisely with regards to SEM.

Pam made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 12:15pm. Josie seconds the motion. Motion Passes.
